Jesus
Confirms His Mission
The
Confirmation
The Christians were in Nazareth. And as His regular
habit was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath Day. The keeper of the
books gave the book of Prophet Isaiah to Jesus, and He opened it and read:
The
Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because
the Lord has anointed Me
To
preach good tidings to the poor.
He
has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To
proclaim liberty to the captives,
And
the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And
the day of vengeance of our God.
To
comfort all who mourn,
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To
give them beauty for ashes,
The
oil of joy for mourning,
The
garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
That
they may be called trees of righteousness,
The
planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
When He had read these words He closed the book and said, “This scripture is
fulfilled before your eyes this day. The year of jubilee
has come. The time when Israel shall bless the world.”
And then He told them many things about the kingdom of the Holy One, about the
hidden way of life, about forgiveness of sins. Now, many people knew not who
the speaker was. And others said, “Is this not Joseph's son? Does not His mother
live on Marmion way?”
And one spoke out and said, “This is the man who did such mighty works in Cana,
in Capernaum, and in Jerusalem.”
Jesus
Disappears From Angry Congregation
And then the people said, “Physician heal yourself.
Do here among your kindred all the mighty works that you have done in other
towns.”
And Jesus said, “"A prophet is honoured, except
in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house." And
prophets are not sent to everyone. Elijah was a man of God. He had the power
and he closed the gates of heaven, and it did not rain for forty months. And
when he spoke the Word, the rain come on, the earth brought forth again. And
there were many widows in the land. But this Elijah went to none but Zarephath, and she was blessed. And when Elisha lived,
behold, many lepers were in Israel, but none were cleansed except one - the
Syrian who had faith.
“You have no faith. You seek for signs to satisfy your curious urges.
But you shall see not till you open up your eyes of faith.” And then the people
were enraged. They rushed upon Him, bound Him down with cords, and took Him to
a precipice not far away, intent to cast Him
down to death. But when they thought they held Him fast, He disappeared.
Unseen, He passed among the angry men, and went His way. A precipice is the edge
of a gully, mountain or cliff.
The people were confounded and they said, “What manner of a man is this?” And
when they came again to Nazareth, they found Him teaching in the synagogue.
They troubled Him no more for they were sore afraid.
Explanations:
1.
People hate to hear the truth preached to them.
2.
The worst sets are the religious leaders, who should
know better and who should direct the others to do the right things.
3. The
spiritual realities of life are not what people understand by the ordinary eyes
or senses.
4. Everybody
must study and practise Spiritual Science in order to be able to interpret the
events of life, spiritually.
5. However,
many are so blind, ignorant and lazy that they do not care about this very
important study.
6. That is
why many people shall miss heaven, and enter hell, even when they have reached
the right place for salvation.
